PCE retained the title of Mumbai University Chess Championship (Zone-IV)

Pillai College of Engineering (PCE) New Panvel, retained the title of Mumbai University Chess Championship (Zone-IV) held on 23rd September, 2019 at Roha. This is the second consecutive year the PCE winning this title. Team of 5 students are trained by Prof. Yogesh Kene. Congrats to the coach and players.

Ayonika Paul represented India in Olympics 2016

Our student Miss Ayonika Paul has represented India in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil. She has won Gold Medal in National Rifle Shooting in 10 MTR held at chandigarh in 2016. Miss Ayonika Paul has been proudly awarded the Best Achiever in Sports 2016 by Pillai Group of Institutions in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments.

Receiption to Ayonika Paul on her maiden Olympics Debut at RIO 2016

Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai Group of Institution has organized a receiption on 27th June, 2016 to bid a fond cheerio to the Engineering student of the college and Ace Shooter and Common Wealth Silver Medallist Ayonika Paul, who will represent India in the Rio De Janeiro, Brazil – Olympics 2016 in the 10 meter Air Rifle Shooting Event. Ayonika a Post graduate student of Pillai College of Engineering is a student who is studying here for the last six years made us proud by becoming the first Olympian from the Pillai Group of Institutions.

The aim of this reception is to convey her all the best for Olympic debut at Rio-2016 from the teachers, staff and college / class mates of Ayonika. And in due course it also encourages our students to take up sports a serious profession.

Ayonika Paul is studying in Pillai College of Engineering from her under graduate engineering program start getting noticed by one and all during Asian Junior Rifle shooting championship where she won bronze medal at Kuwait during 2011.

Ayonika take up the sports Rifle shooting in her school days won her first medal in 2007 after she clinched a bronze at the international junior competition in Suhl, Germany. Since she has gone on to win multiple medals at the junior and senior level.

Today, Ayonika idolizes ace Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra even as they play on the same team. Ayonika an Indian international shooter, who competes in the 10 metre air rifle event won the silver medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and also won Bronze in ISSF World Cup 2014 in Slovenia.

Ayonika’s presence in the college encouraged the college to build a Rifle shooting range named “Aim High” – at Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus and inspired many students to take up this excellent sporting event. The college now has the best team in Mumbai University with Individual Gold Medal and Team Silver. There are around 100 shooters training in the range from various streams at the campus.

On 29th January, 2016 was a proud day for all us as India secured their 11th Olympic quota from shooting when Ayonika Paul bagged the silver in women’s 10m air rifle event at the Asia Olympic qualifying competition. Ayonika Paul has been confirmed by the Selection Committee of NRAI to represent India at the Rio Olympics 2016.

We wish her “ALL THE BEST” – and sure that she will come out with Golden flying colours from the Shooting range of Rio-Olympics.

Prashant S. won 1st prize for product TIPO, a Braille keypad, participated in Hackaday Super Conference, Los Angeles

Prashant Sharma, a Third Year Student of Pillai College of Engineering, New Panvel participated in the Hackaday Super Conference held on 14th November, 2017 at Los Angeles.  He and his team won the first prize for best product worth $30000 at this event for their product “TIPO”, a Braille keypad for the blind which can be attached at the back of any smart phone.

The team also won the fifth place for Hackaday prize which was worth $5000. Hackaday is a world renowned open source hardware development platform.

Prashant and his team were also featured in the Deccan Herald newspaper for this product.

PCE take great pride in its own football and cricket leagues which have become a pillar of PCE student life and culture being one of the largest of their kind in Mumbai college sports community. The league now consists of 16 teams of unparalleled determination, skill and motivation battling for the pride of the EFL or ECL trophies. The tournament is organised with the skill and professionalism of every MES sports event.

Yash Borade Won 2nd Prize in the National West Zone Chess Championship

Yash Borade from SE Mechanical represented Mumbai University in the National West Zone Chess Championship and secured 2nd place.

PCE won the University of Mumbai (Zone-IV) Chess Championship Title

PCE won the University of Mumbai (Zone-IV) Chess Title held at JSM College, Alibaug on 3rd August, 2013. A total of 16 teams participated in the league format tournament, where a confident Pillai Engineering team over powered Malsha College (4-0) in the opening match. In the semi-finals they beat a star studded CKT College (2.5-1.5) and entered in to the finals. In the deciding match they beat MGM Collage (3-1).

Team led by Yogesh Kene a first year ME student, made exceptionally well throughout the tourney with 4 out of 4 wins. Aditya Singh also shine with the same performance, Kanad Kalsure, Aditya Nair and Unnikrishanan also put up their best performance for the final glory of the team. Earlier in the day Dr. Uttam Kendre, Director, Physical Education and Sports, University of Mumbai inaugurated the tournament in the presence of Advocate Gautam Patil, Vice President of Janata Shikshan Sanstha, Alibaug.

It was a day of great joy and pride at Pillai Campus, Navi Mumbai, when the Merit list of Engineering students arrived in the campus from the University of Mumbai.

Dr. Manju Pillai and Prof. Nikam, incharge of the Examination dept, announced the merit list at the campus, with three of our students recording outstanding performance. Our Student from PCE, Mr. Sayooj Rajendrakumar Pillai, of Mechanical Engineering, from final year stood first in University of Mumbai’s Mechanical Department, with a score of 1232 out of 1500 (82.13%).

Mr. Saurabh Bhopi stood 6th in the University from Electronics dept. with a total of 1233 out of 1500 and Ms. Shweta Shettigar stood 13th in the University in the Electronics dept. with a grand total of 1229 out of 1500.

Mr. Sayooj Pillai was congratulated by the Secretary and CEO of Mahatma Education Society, Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai on his remarkable achievement in the University. He also has offered him a seat for post-graduate studies at PCE with 100% fee-waiver and teaching assistantship.

Dr. R. I. K. Moorthy, Principal of PCE was overwhelmed with this great achievement of the college and also appreciated the contribution made by the faculty who taught all our toppers throughout their four year degree program. He also mentioned that Sayooj is a very brilliant and hard working boy and he deserved this success.

Sayooj said “He himself could not believe this and also mentioned that in his success there is a great contribution and support of the teachers who taught him” and also placed on record the excellent teaching faculty at Pillai. The Management also congratulated Sayooj’s father, Mr. Rajendra Pillai and his mom Mrs. Radha Pillai for the great achievement of their son.

Following Students from our college are there in the merit list of Mumbai University for B.E. Exam held in May 2012.

PCE Hyperions Team Participated in Formula Student Germany’s “Formula Student Combustion” Event

The competition was held in Hockenheim city, Germany from 29th July to 3rd August, 2014

Hyperions Team from Pillai College of Engineering is set to visit Germany end-July to participate in Formula Student Germany’s “Formula Student Combustion” Event. The competition was held in Hockenheim city from 29th July to 3rd August, 2014. Four engineering college teams competed with the best at a top competition in Germany, where the formula racing cars they build were put to the test.

Hyperions team leader Deepak Padmanabhan said they have sought the help of former professional car racers. “Keeping a simple model in mind, we have a strong base for the car and good technical support from our sponsors,” said Padmanabhan.

Each team will aim to complete four tests including endurance (22 km), fuel economy, acceleration (75m), skid pad, auto cross (assessing car’s performance and handling). The competitions will be held after the German F1 Grand Prix 2014 gets over at the same venue.

ISHRAE (Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers) had arranged its Annual Exhibition ACREX 2013 at Mumbai from 7th to 9th March, 2013. As part of the event, the Annual National Student Quiz was conducted on 9th March, 2013. Firstly, in the morning there was an elimination written test in which 30 teams from all over India participated. Our College, having the Students Chapter, also participated. Each team comprised 2 students. Our College was represented by Bhavesh Uppal (B.E. Mechanical) and Vinit Wilson (T.E. Mechanical). The written test was of 1 hour duration comprising multiple choice questions.

Out of the 30 Teams, only 6 teams were shortlisted for the Final Round in the afternoon. Amongst the 6 teams, our College was one of the teams. This was in itself an achievement since it meant being in top 20% of the National Student Chapters and only team from Maharashtra. Subsequently the final round; called a QUEST was conducted with a lot of fanfare and professionalism. The format of the Quiz was on the lines of a similar program conducted in Hollywood; with celebrities being part of the Quiz. In this particular case the celebrities were four senior ISHRAE / ASHRAE officials.

Each Team was asked questions on topics ranging from AC and R Equipment, Space, Acoustics, Pumps, IAQ and Energy Conservation and Control Systems. At the end of all the 6 teams’ questions, it so happened that for the 3rd place our College Team and the team from Chennai were tied at 35 points. Hence there was a tie-breaker and with an exciting finish, our Team won the Tie-Breaker and thus won the 3rd Prize which carried a trophy and a cash award of Rs. 30,000/-.

PCE Team Won Gold Medal at the 8th Maharashtra State Inter-University Research Convention “Avishkar”

8th Maharashtra State Inter-University Research Convention “Avishkar”

The teams of both postgraduate and undergraduate engineering students from Pillai College of Engineering, New Panvel have won trophies and secured Gold Medal at the 8th Maharashtra State Inter-University Research Convention “Avishkar”, which was held at North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon during 16th – 18th January, 2014. In all, nineteen universities from Maharashtra participated in the above event. It is to the credit of the students of Pillai College that the University of Mumbai could bag the “Individual Championship” in Engineering and Technology.

Sagar Kulkarni, a student of Master of Engineering (Computer Engineering) at PCE, has developed a “Morphological Analyzer for Devanagari Script” under the guidance of Prof. Sharvari Govilkar. This research will go a long way in the use of computers for information retrieval from hand written Devanagari Script documents. The undergraduate team consisted of Eshani Diwakar, Shringa Sekhar, Ruturaj Swami and Utkarsh Trivedi, and the paper was presented by Ruturaj Swami. This team also worked under the guidance of Prof. Sharvari Govilkar and has developed “Morphological Approach for Segmentation and recognition of Scanned Handwritten Devnagri documents”, which will enable editing of the document in Devanagari Script. The above two research projects together will facilitate the use of computers for editing and information retrieval from the handwritten documents in Indian regional languages such as Hindi and Marathi.

Prior to the State Level Competition, there were university level competitions at each of the nineteen universities. The top two projects from each university were sent for the state level competition. The university level Inter-Collegiate Research Convention of Mumbai University was held at V. V. Bhawan, Churchgate during 4th – 6th January, 2014. The research papers were adjudged by eminent judges based on poster / model presentation and oral presentation. The PCE teams were adjudged 1st among 77 teams in UG category and 1st and 3rd among 25 teams in PG category at above competition. Speaking to the media, Principal Dr. R. I. K. Moorthy told that keeping in view the new challenges in knowledge and innovation, Pillai College of Engineering has been making a conscious effort to train its students in research activity.

Avishkar – A Research Convention was initiated by His Excellency Shri K. Sankaranarayanan, Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of the Universities in the State of Maharashtra to develop research culture and scientific temper among the students. This year, the University of Mumbai has won “Overall Champion” Trophy and four “Individual Championship” trophies out of six, namely in Humanities, Commerce, Engineering and Medicine.

Ayonika Paul, Engineering student of Pillai College of Engineering made every one proud by achieving the prestigious Shiv Chhatrapati Award of Government of Maharashtra for outstanding performance in the field of Sports (Rifle Shooting).

It is a double glory for Ayonika as she also selected into the National Squad for the forthcoming Asian Championship at Kuwait and the World Cup Rifle Shooting at USA.

Ayonika give credit of her achievement to her coach and the Pillai Institute of Information Technology, New Panvel for helping her with continuing her sports along with her Engineering studies.

This achievement also encourage the Training Shooters at Aim High – the Pillai Rifle Shooting Range and are more students take up this game as their favourite sporting event.

The team led by Second Year M.E. student Mr. Yogesh V. Kene of Pillai College of Engineering won the Raigad Zone of Mumbai University Chess Tournament held at JSM College, Alibaug on 11th August, 2014. Team PCE was represented by Yogesh V. Kene (ME-II year), Karad Kuasar (BE-ETRX), Aditya Singh (TE-MECH), Sarvesh G. Rao (SE-ETRX), Unnikrishnan R.P. (BE-IT) and won all the matches they played including the semi-finals against a strong CKT College and also won against GM Vedak College Tala, in the finals.

PCE Students triumph at Westzone Universities Title for Mumbai University

Mr. Aditya Singh (3rd year Mechanical) and Mr. Sarvesh Rao (2nd year Electronics) students of PCE won the West Zone Universities Chess Championship (Men) team title for Mumbai University on 27th – 30th October, 2014. The Mumbai University team led by Aditya singh outplayed every universities coming under West Zone during the event held at Ahmedabad (Gujrat). Earlier in the trial of Mumbai University Aditya Singh Ranked No. 1 and Sarvesh Rao ranked No. 3 and selected in to the University of Mumbai team.

In the finals the Mumbai University team led by Aditya Singh beat Nagpur University in a match of eight round score (14 – 11).

Nidhi Nirmal Menon, Outstanding Student of the Year for the Undergraduate Students

Every year the college awards “Outstanding Student of the Year for the Undergraduate Students”. Ms. Nidhi Nirmal Menon from Computer Engineering Department has been selected for this award based on the academic performance and extra-curricular activities.

PCE Won the Mumbai University Raigad Zone Chess title

Pillai College of Engineering (PCE), New Panvel won the Mumbai University Raigad Zone Chess title, where a total of 38 college teams competed for the title. Pillai College of Arts Commerce and Science, New Panvel and Pillai HOC College of Engineering, Rasayani, who had competed for the first time in the University Chess format came 4th and 7th position respectively. PCE and PCACS qualified for the Final league of Mumbai University Chess Championship.

Team Prayaas from PCE, panvel won SMART INDIA HACKATHON 2018 1st Runner Up at National level.

Team Prayaas designed and fabricated wearable machine made up of bamboo.This wearable machine reduces load coming on human body.

Problem statement was given by GOVERNMENT OF SIKKIM for rural development hardware section.

Ayonika Paul (BE ERTX) student of Pillai College of Engineering (PCE), New Panvel made us proud again by winning Bronze medal at World Cup Rifle Shooting Championship held at Maribore (Bosnia) and also confirmed her selection for the forthcoming Common Wealth Games at Glasgow. It is her most reputed achievement in a senior category at International level.

The Pride of Pillai Sports Ayonika Paul (BE-ERTX) student of Pillai College of Engineering (PCE) made the country proud by winning Silver Medal at Commonwealth Games 10 Mtr Rifle Shooting Championship at Glasgow (UK) on 26th July, 2014.

In the qualifying round she finished 4th with 413.2 points and made her entry into the final round. Ayonika fought back in the final round and adjudged second with 204.9 points. She just missed Gold Medal as the winner of the gold scored 206.7.

Pillai Group of Institution has given a warm welcome and felicitation to Ayonika Paul, Electronic Engineering student of Pillai College of Engineering at Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus, New Panvel on 1st August, 2014. Ayonika arrived at the college along with her parents after her Silver Medal Hunt at Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2014 was received by the students, staff and management at the college entrance and proceed to the felicitation venue with much fanfare.

Prominent personalities present at the function includes Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai, CEO, Pillai Group of Institutions., Dr. Daphne Pillai, Secretary, MES., Dr. Priam Pillai, Chief Operating Officer, MES., Mr. Franav Pillai, Dy. CEO, MES and Principal PCE Dr. R.I.K. Moorthy. Sports Director, Mr. Padmakshan Padmanabhan declared the award for Ayonika from Pillai Group which includes 20 Gm Gold Medal, Rupees One Lac Cash Award, Free Scholarship for her entire Post Graduation Studies worth Rupees 2.5 Lacs and a memento.

The speakers at the function applauds Ayonika’s efforts to keep her technical education par with sports as the preparation national camps for Commonwealth Games 2014 was at the same time of her B.E. Electronics examination. Ayonika who used to practise at Pillai Rifle Shooting Range – “Aim High” – addresses the press inside the range.

The sports director in his speech, emphasis how the sports can be played par with academics by sighting Ayonika as a role model. Many press people across Mumbai attended the function as it was the first Felicitation at Mumbai for a Commonwealth medallist 2014.
